So, if you’re new to my site, let me explain a few things.  First of all – I know most people do NOT like to exercise.  I was definitely one of those people.  Even though, I was an all-state football player in high school – I still hated to exercise!

BUT, after spending 225 days in the hospital and two years in a wheel chair- I was ready to do ANYTHING to change my life.  I know what it’s like to sit around depressed, watching tv and eating junk food.

I got mad and I got determined to change my life!  I was NOT going to live like this for the rest of my life.  I was only 40 years old in the prime of my career when I had a stroke that changed my life forever – and not in a good way.

I knew if I was ever going to walk, I’d need to build my strength. I started lifting cans of soup – Yes, you heard me right.  They were right there in my kitchen and I could start doing reps to build my biceps to push myself up out of that damn chair!  I was sitting there any-way, so I might as well make use of my time to improve my life.  I had to get my one good arm as strong as possible to start to be able to do things for myself.

I also did crunches to strengthen my abdominal muscles- these are some of the strongest muscles in your body.

More about my work-outs later- but I need to tell you that nobody knows your body like you do.  Listen to your own body. Make up your own exercises to strengthen the areas that you know you will need to be more independent.

I used to do everything I could think of to work my upper body on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and then lower body on Tuesday and Thursday.  Don’t stress your body – this is probably a new thing. Only work out for 30 minutes at a time.

When I saw the results I was getting I began to LOVE exercise and I hope you will too!

Sincerely,

James Jones
