“Hey Be Fit, Be Able Family! My name is Vashaye "Shaye" Ellegood. I became aware of Mr. Jones when my neuropsychologist recommended I read an article, "Wheelchair to Walking"! It was an inspiring article of Mr. James road to recovery after having a major stroke. Who knew after several months after of reading that article I would need some much needed advice/support. I was losing hope after experiencing my first major stroke then approximately 11 months later I had my second stroke I was becoming depressed. So, my mom called Mr. James and shared my story with him. Later that day, Mr. James called me back and gave me some words of encouragement to keep pushing forward! Two years later I was out of the wheelchair, then the walker, then I started swimming, rock climbing and I am now apart of this beautiful opportunity to serve on Be Fit, Be Able board! Similar to Mr. James my entire left side had not fully healed, but I’m still on the road to recovery! Here’s to meeting people where they are at and seeking greater change in one’s life!"
